Bitcoin Faces a Critical Week
Bitcoin Faces Key Test Ahead of FOMC
Bitcoin Slides as Traders Await Major Market Events
Bitcoin came under renewed selling pressure on September 14 as cryptocurrency traders prepared for two major events that could determine the market's short-term direction: the Federal Reserve's upcoming FOMC meeting and the U.S. Senate's procedural vote on the CLARITY Act.
Bitcoin was trading near $76,704 globally, while prices on South Korean exchanges stood around ₩104.49 million, equivalent to roughly $78,000. The cryptocurrency was down 0.49% over the previous 24 hours.
Major altcoins followed Bitcoin lower. Ethereum declined 0.50%, while XRP and Solana fell 0.76% and 0.51%, respectively.
Despite the weakness, overall market sentiment remained relatively optimistic. The Fear & Greed Index was at 61, placing investor sentiment in the “greed” category.
Federal Reserve Decision Could Shape Bitcoin's Next Move
Interest Rates Remain the Biggest Macro Risk
The Federal Reserve's September 15–16 meeting has become the main focus for cryptocurrency investors.
Markets are waiting for the central bank's interest-rate decision as well as its updated Summary of Economic Projections. The projections will provide fresh estimates for inflation, economic growth and future interest rates, while the Fed's dot plot could offer clues about how policymakers view additional rate increases.
Recent increases in oil prices have added to concerns that inflation could remain elevated. If policymakers believe price pressures are proving stronger than expected, they may maintain restrictive monetary policy for longer or leave the door open to additional rate hikes.
A more dovish assessment, particularly if inflation shows signs of cooling, could have the opposite effect by improving the outlook for risk assets such as Bitcoin.
Hot PPI Data Adds Pressure to Bitcoin
Inflation Concerns Return to the Market
August U.S. Producer Price Index data showed that both headline and core producer inflation accelerated on a year-over-year basis.
The stronger PPI figures increased concerns that the Federal Reserve may have less room to ease monetary policy. For Bitcoin, higher interest-rate expectations can be negative because tighter financial conditions tend to reduce demand for riskier assets.
Bitcoin's performance was also affected by broader movements in financial markets. The U.S. Treasury's $6 billion long-term bond buyback was smaller than the $7 billion to $9 billion expected by the market, limiting optimism about improving liquidity.
Oil prices also moved higher after President Donald Trump indicated that the conflict involving Iran could continue beyond the U.S. midterm elections. Higher energy prices contributed to renewed inflation concerns and briefly pushed Bitcoin toward the $77,000 area.
CLARITY Act Vote Adds Another Major Catalyst
Crypto Regulation Comes Into Focus
The Federal Reserve is not the only event cryptocurrency traders are watching.
The U.S. Senate is scheduled to hold a procedural vote on the CLARITY Act on September 15. The proposed legislation would establish a broader regulatory framework for digital assets in the United States.
A revised version of the bill reportedly exceeds 600 pages and includes changes concerning decentralized finance (DeFi) and certain activities involving traditional financial institutions.
Bitcoin Could React to the Senate Outcome
The bill needs 60 votes to clear the procedural hurdle, making bipartisan support essential.
If the CLARITY Act advances toward full floor consideration, it could provide a positive catalyst for Bitcoin and the wider cryptocurrency market by reducing regulatory uncertainty.
However, the timing of the vote is important. With the FOMC meeting taking place almost simultaneously, a positive regulatory development may not be enough to generate a strong Bitcoin rally.
If the legislation fails to advance while the Federal Reserve adopts a hawkish stance, Bitcoin could face additional selling pressure.
Bitcoin's $75,500 Support Level Is Critical
A Break Below Support Could Change the Outlook
Yuya Hasegawa, an analyst at Japanese cryptocurrency exchange bitbank, believes Bitcoin is showing a top-heavy structure and remains vulnerable to further weakness.
The key level traders are watching is $75,500, which represents an important lower boundary of Bitcoin's recent trading range.
A hawkish Federal Reserve outcome could put this support under significant pressure. Even without an actual rate hike, a dot plot showing more policymakers expecting higher rates this year could weigh on Bitcoin.
$70,000 Could Become the Next Target
If Bitcoin decisively falls below $75,500, the cryptocurrency could begin giving back some of its August gains.
Hasegawa identified $70,000 as the next major downside target. A move toward that level would represent another significant decline from Bitcoin's current trading range.
For now, traders are closely watching the Fed's rate decision, inflation outlook, Treasury yields and the CLARITY Act vote. Together, these factors could determine whether Bitcoin stabilizes above support or enters another phase of correction.
