Bitcoin's Battle Above $90K
Bitcoin's recent surge past the $90,000 mark was temporary, as it struggles to maintain its position. After a nearly 10% increase to over $95,000 on March 2, Bitcoin formed a double-top pattern near $94,200, indicating a possible price drop. The following day, it fell to around $81,400 and has since been attempting to stay above the $90,000 level.
Several factors contribute to this decline, notably the ongoing outflows from U.S. spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs), which have seen four consecutive weeks of net outflows totaling over $2.6 billion by the end of February. These outflows, according to Ryan Lee, chief analyst at Bitget Research, are increasing selling pressure as institutional investors retreat due to macroeconomic uncertainties and shifting risk perceptions.
Macroeconomic factors, particularly the announcement of new U.S. trade tariffs by President Trump, also weigh heavily on Bitcoin’s price. These tariffs have raised concerns about inflation and economic stability, prompting investors to favor safer assets over riskier ones like Bitcoin. This shift in sentiment has further contributed to Bitcoin's recent price decline.
Despite these challenges, there is some optimism in the market. Analysts predict a potential long-term price increase for Bitcoin, with estimates ranging from $160,000 to $180,000 by late 2025. Iliya Kalchev, a dispatch analyst at Nexo, mentioned that concerns regarding trade tariffs might diminish soon, especially if a deal to lower tariffs on Canada and Mexico is reached, which could ease some trade tensions affecting market sentiment.
Bitcoin's recovery may encounter obstacles due to broader economic conditions. The cryptocurrency market is still dealing with the fallout from the $1.4 billion Bybit hack in February, the largest hack in crypto history. While Bitcoin's price remains unpredictable, many market participants are hopeful for a rebound, particularly as trade policies stabilize and market conditions improve. The combination of Bitcoin ETF outflows, macroeconomic uncertainties, and global trade concerns has created a tense atmosphere for the cryptocurrency market, leaving traders uncertain about Bitcoin's short-term path. However, many analysts maintain a positive outlook for Bitcoin's long-term value as economic conditions are expected to improve.
